Historical Museum Youth Advisory Committee
The Historical
Museum Youth Advisory Committee (HMYAC) brings a
teen perspective to the Tempe Historical Museum.
Teens represent the future of Tempe and it is
important that the museum
includes them in our planning and programs.
The museum strives to provide services that
foster an understanding and appreciation of
Tempe’s unfolding history in a way that teens
find relevant and interesting.
The HMYAC helps the museum
staff to gain teens'
perspectives on their community, its history,
their concerns, and how best to
involve them in the
museum’s programs.
HMYAC has begun important work. The current
members of the committee are establishing lines
of communication among the museum staff and high
school students. Without their dedication,
assistance and enthusiasm, the museum would not
be able to reach out as effectively to this
important audience. The staff is indebted to
these teens for their willingness to forge
ahead!
Representatives
for the HMYAC are juniors
and seniors
at the high schools
within the Tempe Union High School District.
HMYAC meets monthly at the
museum from September through May.
Mission
Statement
The committee has adopted the following mission
statement:
Making the
museum the best it can be by coming up with new
ideas to involve teenagers.
•
New
programs for teenagers
•
Making
Tempe more interesting to teenagers
•
Making
the history of Tempe fun to teenagers.
Opportunity to Serve
The HMYAC is looking for representatives from
Corona del Sol, Desert Vista, Mountain Point and
Tempe High Schools. If you attend any of these high
schools, will be a sophomore, junior or senior in the fall
of 2007, and are interested in serving on the
committee, please contact
Amy A.
Douglass, Museum Administrator.
It's a great way to get involved with your
community and build your resume!
