This property is part of the Rancho El Dorado subdivision which was platted in December of 1945 by the Arizona Title and Guarantee Trust Company. It is an example of the post-World War II subdivision boom in Tempe. C. E. Van Ness was the president of the company. No specific historical associations could be identified for this property.
Covered with stucco, this frame house is one story in height and has a medium-pitched asphalt-shingled roof. The central entry is a six-panel door and is sheltered by a small gabled entry porch with a medium-pitched roof. The porch roof is supported by two square posts set on brick bases with concrete caps. The porch floor is a concrete pad. The gable end of the house is filled with a horizontal-louvered ventilator above flushboard paneling. A slit ventilator is at the frieze line of the house. Windows are awning type.
The raised floor elevation is a unique feature of this house not typical for buildings constructed in the 1940s. By this era, homes were being constructed with "slab-on-grade" floors. This home is one of few intact historic homes along Don Carlos east of McClintock.
