The Chavez House is a Sonoran style building, one story in height. The characteristics
of this style include adobe construction, flat roof, stucco coverings of exterior walls,
and rectangular massing. A frame and stucco addition extends the length of the house at
the rear and is stylistically compatible with the original house. The front facade
features a flat awning-type porch roof, supported by four stucco square posts on concrete
bases. The porch floor is a concrete pad. The central entry is a single-leaf door, with a
large double-hung window on each side. The addition has a single entry and a window at the
north end. Vents with hoods are located near the roofline. A low water table surrounds the
house.
This house was occupied by the family of Ramon Chavez, rancher and laborer, from about
1914 until 1930.
