The house at 911 S. Maple Avenue may have been one of the many rental properties built
by B. H. Scudder in the late 1920s. Research suggests that the house was built about 1928.
The house was probably a rental unit throughout much of its history.
This two-story rectangular house was of frame construction covered with stucco, and had
a low-pitched gable roof with open eaves and broad overhangs. A shed-roofed screened porch
extended the length of the front facade. A lean-to was added to the rear of the house. The
first-story windows appeared to be the original casement windows; the second-story windows
were covered with exterior canvas shade and were not visible.
