PROVENANCE: The collection consists of field notes and photographic documentation compiled by Loendorf and Associates during an archaeological survey project that was funded by the Arizona State Parks Heritage Fund and the Tempe Community Services Department in 1995.

SCOPE: Field notes, photographic materials, sketches, and other materials compiled by Loendorf and Associates document prehistoric rock art that is located on Tempe Butte.

CONTENT: 1 binder of Tempe Butte Rock Art recording forms, typed, for outcrops 1-30; 396 slides, 15 proof sheets, and negatives; approximately 500 hand-written panel forms and scale drawings for outcrops 1-30, in file folders; and an educational slide show in a carousel.

ADMINISTRATIVE HISTORY: Loendorf and Associates provided archaeological services for this project under contract with the Tempe Community Services Department. The project was funded by an Arizona State Parks Heritage Fund Grant (No. 649312) for $5800.00 in 1994. Matching funds of $3868.00 were provided by the Parks and Recreation Division of the Tempe Community Services Department. The Grant was administered by the Tempe Engineering Department (Project No. 946537) and was overseen by Dr. Amy Douglass, Museum Administrator for the Tempe Historical Museum. The contract was awarded to Loendorf and Associates on December 21, 1994. Fieldwork was conducted in 1995. A final report, entitled "With Zig Zag Lines I'm Painted: Hohokam Petroglyphs on Tempe Butte, Arizona," was submitted by Loendorf and Associates, along with the photographic and written documentation, upon completion of the project.
