The Men's Gymnasium was completed in 1927. Its construction reflects the increasing number of male students who began to make their way to campus during the twenties, a period of depressed agricultural conditions in Arizona and the Salt River Valley. The Men's Gymnasium is significant as a surviving example on campus of the International style. It marks a milestone in the architectural evolution of the university's buildings. It is interesting to note that classically inspired structures were also being constructed on campus at this time and as late as 1941 (Dixie Gammage Hall). The use of rectilinear geometric masses without ornamentation and expanses of steel framed glass windows reflect the Bauhaus influence.
