The Dixie Gammage Hall dormitory building was completed in 1941; it was funded entirely from college bonds backed by a Public Works Administration loan. The Architectural firm for the building was Lescher & Mahoney; contractor was William Pepper Construction Company. Constructed to house 85 women students, it was built at a cost of $122,480. It was named to honor Dixie Dees Gammage, the wife of the college president, who was very popular with the students. Dixie Gammage died on September 14, 1948.

Dixie Gammage Hall is architecturally significant as the last classically-inspired building constructed on the ASU campus. It is a simplified extension of the 1937 West Hall designed by Lescher & Mahoney.
