This house was owned by James Gaines in 1940; by Mrs. Seymour R. Boyd in 1946; and by
Hazel Boyd in 1948. It is located in the Gage Addition, which was platted in April of 1909
by the Tempe Land and Improvement Company. This home is an example of later infill
construction in a developed area. Many lots had remained vacant from the original
subdivision plat. During upswings in the economy, these lots wre built on. The result is a
mix of older and newer houses in close proximity.
This building is a modest example of the Southwest style. Although obscured from view
by vegetation, most of the original fabric remains intact. This mature landscaping is
typical for the neighborhood.
