National Folk, with Bungalow influences |
B. H. Scudder built this house about 1929. Scudder built many houses for rental
properties in this area. Archie Osburn bought the house in 1931 or 1932. Osburn was a
deputy foreman for Borden Western Company at the time. In 1981, the house was still
occupied by Osburn.
This building is characteristic of Folk style houses with its wood frame construction
and simplistic detailing. Its front gable and wood detailing hints at the influence of the
Bungalow style. This board and batten-covered frame house has a steeply pitched roof and
is one story in height. The offset entry has a similar roof with a three-sided arched
gable end and is supported by two slender square posts. The entry shelters the
three-panel, one-light door. A single double-hung window is located in the front facade on
either side of the door. Beneath the gable is a square louvered ventilator.
