The Buck family occupied the Orlo Buck House from 1920 until the late 1930s. Orlo Buck
was the son of Dwight G. Buck and came to Arizona with his parents in 1891. He operated
plumbing and trucking businesses in Tempe and was a member of the Tempe Volunteer Fire
Department. He was a veteran of the Spanish-American War and died in 1939.
In the 1980s, this single-story house was mostly hidden by vegetation. It appeared to
be frame covered with tongue and groove siding, and was L-shaped in plan. Asphalt shingles
covered the pitched roof, which extended over the open porch. Gables faced east and west.
The west end of the porch had been enclosed. Doors were located in this enclosure and in
the front facade; both opened off the porch. Porch supports were double wood posts with
crisscrossed lattice between each pair of posts. Paired double-hung windows broke the
front facade.
