This unique style house was the home of Curt W. Miller, a
prominent community leader and publisher of the Tempe Daily News from 1887 until
his death in 1943. Miller was involved in involved in territorial, state, and local
government. He served as Tempe Postmaster, 1893-1897, and was elected Mayor of Tempe in
1922.
The Curt Miller House was built by M. H. Meyer and James W. Woolf, the leading home
builders in Tempe in the early 1900s. It was built of concrete block, which was cast to
look like rusticated stone. The house had arched porch and window openings, and a low
parapet wall. It was demolished in 1983.
