It is said that B. H. Scudder has shipped three houses from the east. The houses are in
sections all ready to be set up as soon as they reach here. It has not been learned upon which
of the Scudder lots the houses will be placed.

Tempe is right up against a most serious problem in the existing shortage of houses for
renting purposes. Everyday finds people here looking for quarters in which to locate their
families during the coming school year and the supply of houses is about exhausted. In
Phoenix, Paul M. Steiner, has devised a three room cottage which he has named Phoenecia,
which we believe would take care of our situation. Sells for $275,000 and comes knocked
down. We have hundreds of vacant lots in town upon which a Phoenecia would be a paying
investment...
Miss Monto, who lives on S. Maple Ave has ordered one of these houses and we
understand a number of others contemplate doing so. Inquire at Halstead Lumber Yard for
full particulars.

B. F. Scudder is building two more new houses. One at Ninth Street and Maple Avenue and
one on his ranch. He expects to remain in Tempe until about the first of January.
[919 is on 1927 Sanborn so this is probably not it.]
