Requirements for Tempe History Detective Program
You need to be registered with the Tempe
History Detective Program and have your passbook initialed by a museum
staff person for each activity you complete so you can be an
official Tempe History Sleuth, Investigator or Detective!
To
receive your final promotion and be recognized as a Tempe History Detective,
you must have completed nine activities (3 per rank). Include at least one each
of the following in your nine activities:

scavenger hunt
-
museum site visit
- writing in your own words
-
family tree
Sleuth Rank
Choose
three (3) of the following activities for promotion:
-
Complete the
Mystery Artifact Challenge I scavenger hunt (available at
the front desk).
-
Attend
a special event at the museum such as Wild Wednesday, Awesome Autumn
Adventure, Holiday Fantasia or Spring Sensation. (Check
our
events page for
details on upcoming events.)
-
Create a
crossword puzzle about Tempe or the museum.
-
Pick a picture
from our on-line photo archives and write a fictional story about it (1 page
minimum).

Investigator Rank
Complete three (3) of the following activities for promotion

Complete the Step
into History scavenger hunt (available at front desk).

This
is a two-part activity:
a. Read selections from “Growing Up in Tempe” by William H. Windes (copies
available from front desk). b. Write one page
comparing your life with that of Mr. Windes.
-
Pick a
historic public property from the Tempe Historic Property Survey. Take a
picture of yourself at the property, and bring it in for credit.

Take a tour of
the Petersen House Museum, 1414 W. Southern Avenue, Tempe, AZ. Take a picture of
yourself outside of the Petersen House, and bring it in for credit.
Detective Rank
Choose
three (3) of the following activities for promotion:

Answer “A
Story Untold” discussion questions.
-
Research and
create your four-generation family tree, including dates and places of birth,
death, and marriage.

Research a
Tempe mayor of your choice and write a one-page biography. See

View the
photos from Tempe’s Double Butte Cemetery, then go and take a picture of
yourself at one of those sites. See

Create your
own scavenger hunt for one exhibit in the museum. It should include at least six
items.
