FUTURE CITY PROJECTS AT TOWN LAKE

Pedestrian Bridge at Town Lake

The City of Tempe selected T.Y.LIN International for the design of the Tempe Town Lake Pedestrian Bridge over the Town Lake Downstream Dam. Tempe seeks to create a pedestrian bridge that combines the aesthetics of art and architecture with engineering to serve as a functional icon at the lake.

The project will be located atop the existing downstream dam at the west end of the lake. The bridge will connect existing bike and pedestrian multiuse paths on the north and south sides of the lake and provide a link to Tempe Center of the Arts, Scottsdale’s Indian Bend Wash path system, as well as the Mill Avenue District. Construction is projected to begin in 2011.

USACE Upstream Restoration Project - Phase III

This 1/2 mile multi-use path will tie into the newly constructed Rio East Linear Park multi-use path and stretch to McClintock Drive along the south bank of the Salt River. The project involves creating a, multi-use path that will have a small plaza viewing area with benches and lighting. Native trees will line the south side of the narrow path to provide a nice shade canopy.

  Boathouse and Welcome Center
Located next to the Town Lake Marina the three-story building will include boat and equipment storage,
a Welcome Center, fitness area, classrooms, multipurpose meeting space and offices, a great room, lounge and catering kitchen. The Boathouse and Welcome Center is a component of the Water Was Just the Beginning Capital Campaign. As the contractor of the project, Chanen Construction has agreed to contribute a portion of the building costs and to partner with the Rio Salado Foundation who is tasked with raising the remaining funds needed to build the center.
