Job Description

Title: Student Intern

Goal of Position: To provide students in the field of Parks and Recreation opportunities to apply their academic study and fulfill their university requirements.  To enhance the operations, programs, and services at Tempe Kiwanis Recreation Center with the assistance of interns.

Duties: To assist the Tempe Kiwanis Recreation Center in facilitating an improved quality of life for Tempe's citizens.  The intern will assist staff and management in planning, coordinating, and operating recreation programs and services.  Areas include: recreation center management, customer service, front desk, special interest class programming, special events, aquatics, tennis, gym, food/beverage, batting range, sports camps, athletic leagues, and picnic areas.  According to the interests and goals of both the student and the internship coordinator, specific learning tracks can be followed.  These tracks include but are not limited to:  Community Center Management, Aquatics, Athletics, and Special Interest Programming.  

Qualifications: Intern should be a junior, senior, or graduate student majoring in Parks and Recreation at an accredited institution.

Time Frame: Number of hours required by college or university. Typically 35-40 hours per week for 10 to 14 weeks.  Hours vary throughout internship, requiring some evenings, weekends, and holidays.
