  • Program Dates:
    • School Year Program: August 4 - December 19, 2008 and January 5 - May  21, 2009
    • Summer Enrichment Program: May 26 - July 24, 2009
  • Program Hours:
    • Afternoon: 2:30-6 p.m. with either Wednesday or Friday Early Release once a week from 12:30-6 p.m.
    • Summer: 6:30am-12:45pm or 11:45am-6pm, 9am-6pm or 8am-5pm
  • Additional Information:
    • School Year:  All schools have either a Wednesday or Friday early release once a week. Staff must be able to work one of these days in order to be considered permanent.
    • Some paid evenings trainings are required.
  • Rate of Pay:
    • 5 days a week = $11.05 hour.
    • 3 - 4 days a week only or not available for at least one early release day = $9.95 hour.
  • Experience and Training:
    • Good knowledge of teaching methods and procedures including ability to plan, organize, supplement and teach "Start Something" curriculum.
    • Must have a positive personality, willingness to learn and child management skills.
    • Must have good speaking and communication skills.
    • Ability to work effectively with fourth and fifth grade children, families, coworkers, and Community Services Department staff.
    • Must meet AZ Department of Health Services Child Day Care Center Teacher-Caregiver requirements.
    • Requires successful completion of required selection process, successful completion of background investigation and verification of identity and work authorization.
  • Essential Job Functions (completed under the supervision of the Community Education Coordinator):
    • Planning, organizing, and facilitating a leadership/character building/community service club to as many as 15 fourth and fifth grad children at a time.
    • Learning and implementing the "Start Something" curriculum along with selected site staff.
    • Developing and implementing "Start Something" plans prior to the start of each instructor session.
    • Establish and maintain effective relationships with children, parents, school staff and other community members.
    • Maintain discipline, safety and control of class participants.
    • Maintain an environment which promotes cooperation, learning and enjoyment.
    • Encourage high participation of students and track attendance of each class.
    • Participate in culminating family event with participating children and their parents. 
  • Requirements:
    • Submit name, complete addresses and phone numbers of six references.
    • Submit proof of negative TB/Tine test and MMR Immunization or inoculation.
    • Must undergo fingerprint check.
    • Must be at least 16 years of age.
    • Must attain Food Service Worker Card upon hire (prior to working at sites).
    • Must attend our paid new employee orientation and trainings (prior to working at sites).
