School Educational Goals |
|
Our mission is to use
all of our resources to provide instruction and educational opportunities
that meet each student's specific learning need. We nurture students'
natural curiosity and build on their experiences to help them acquire the
knowledge, skills, attitude and responsibility that will enable them to be
successful as they continue their lifelong education
At Kid Zone, we strive to extend the school day in a fun
but educational way. Many of the social skills that teachers do not have
time to focus on in the classroom make their way into the Kid Zone
Enrichment Program setting. We have adopted the Character Counts
program that teaches positive character traits such as responsibility,
friendship, and caring among other traits.
Kid Zone also works closely with school teachers to
mirror educational goals. Homework help, enrichment clinics, and educational
themes work to coincide with the school's current educational goals. |

Homework |
|
An integral part of the Kid Zone Program is to provide
students with the opportunity to work on homework assignments or other
academic activities. The Kid Zone Program supports each child as he or she
accepts the responsibility of completing homework assignments. Our staff
provides guidance and encouragement to the children during he homework/study
time while serving as resources for learning.
We have set aside specific times for the
children to do their homework. In addition to these schedule times, we also
provide a homework table in the different club rooms. K-1st grades have
their Homework Club from 3:15-3:45; 2nd through 5th have Homework Club from
3:45-4:45. During Homework Club time, site staff is available to provide
individual help. Additional quiet time is provided for 4th-5th graders from
2:45-3:15 in their club room where students can do computers, quiet centers
or homework. Mariposa Kid Zone loves
to reward those that go to Homework Club. Every six to eight weeks, we
reward only those children who go to Homework Club with a special party or
walking field trip. Awards are given to those who attend and the verbal
praise, provided to parents on a daily basis, works wonders! Each day
parents can come in to check our new homework board that tracks their
child(ren)'s accomplishments in Homework Club. |

Clinics |
|
Clinics are educational activities focusing
on an individual theme or subject that lasts for 45 minutes a day for a
whole week. The clinics are planned and taught by our enthusiastic and well
trained staff. These clinics are free and only open to children registered at
Kid Zone. We invite parents to see just how much fun children are having
while learning! |
|
|
|
Enrichment Clubs |
|
Club time at Kid Zone is a time when the
children are separated into smaller groups, usually based on age, to
participate with their peers in age-appropriate activities. As there is an
enormous developmental difference between a kindergartener and a fifth
grader, staff plan activities that are geared towards each developmental
level. Behavior problems are often reduced and children feel more
comfortable in the smaller groups with their peers. |

Centers |
| Our goal for centers is to provide a
choice of enriching activities in a planned, structured environment.
Centers are normally child directed that teach and develop skills for
making choices and accepting responsibility. As
an enrichment program, Kid Zone believes that play is an incredibly
important medium of learning. Our staff develop themed lesson plans that
focus on play experiences that enable children to develop and accumulate
their own knowledge. The following are a few examples of what children are
learning at our centers on a daily basis.
-
Creative Play: Developing mobility of thought and practicing cooperation
-
Reading and Listening: Developing
language skills and story comprehension
-
Drawing and Painting: Developing hand-eye
coordination and good self-concept
-
Patterns and Magnet Boards: Developing
classification skills
-
Math: Following mental plans and problem
solving
-
Science: Making generalizations about the
properties of various objects
-
Developing gross motor skills and
learning how to take turns
-
Board games: Learning how to follow
rules, problem solving and working with others.
