Homework

An integral part of the Kid Zone Program is to provide students with the opportunity to work on homework assignments or other academic activities. The Kid Zone Program supports each child as he or she accepts the responsibility of completing homework assignments. Our staff provides guidance and encouragement to the children during the homework/study time while serving as resources for learning.

Parents can sign their child up for homework club or children that are not signed up can choose to go on their own. Children that are signed up, must go to homework club before they can participate in the other site activities offered at Broadmor Kid Zone.

A quiet classroom setting is provided for children to focus on their homework. Homework Club is Monday - Thursday starting at 4:00pm and ends at different times for each individual child as they finish. Parents may also specify on the homework form what days and amount of time they would like their child to spend in homework club.

Clinics

Clinics are educational activities focusing on an individual theme or subject that lasts for 45 minutes a day for a whole week. These clinics are free and only open to children registered at Kid Zone. Please check the parent table to sign up for these incredible clinics.

Enrichment Clubs

Club time at Kid Zone is a time when the children are separated into smaller groups, usually based on age, to participate with their peers in age-appropriate activities. As there is an enormous developmental difference between a kindergartener and a fifth grader, staff plan activities that are geared towards each developmental level. Behavior problems are often reduced and children feel more comfortable in the smaller groups with their peers.

Children go directly to their designated club from school. Children will participate in general centers, clinics, homework club and special club projects that are age-appropriate. Club rooms are set up in a way to give children the opportunity to choose what they would like to do for the afternoon. Club rooms are inviting and promote a friendly supportive atmosphere filled with enriching activities that re geared for their age group.

Centers

Our goal for centers is to provide a choice of enriching activities in a planned, structured environment. Centers are normally child directed that teach and develop skills for making choices and accepting responsibility.

As an enrichment program, Kid Zone believes that play is an incredibly important medium of learning. Our staff develop themed lesson plans that focus on play experiences that enable children to develop and accumulate their own knowledge. The following are a few examples of what children are learning at our centers on a daily basis.

  • Creative Play: Developing mobility of thought and practicing cooperation

  • Reading and Listening: Developing language skills and story comprehension

  • Drawing and Painting: Developing hand-eye coordination and good self-concept

  • Patterns and Magnet Boards: Developing classification skills

  • Math: Following mental plans and problem solving

  • Science: Making generalizations about the properties of various objects

  • Developing gross motor skills and learning how to take turns

  • Board games: Learning how to follow rules, problem solving and working with others.

There are 10-13 centers offered on a daily basis. The centers range from arts and crafts, active games, board games, drawing, construction, creative play, math, science, quiet/relaxation (reading center), writing, snack and outside centers such as group games or individual games.
