SUMMARY: Under general supervision, performs computer-aided technical, professional drafting work, which includes producing construction documents, specifications, mapping and presentation drawings.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    _ Produces preliminary or concept drawings prior to design with information gathered from survey field data, global position satellites, utility companies and legal boundary descriptions;

    _ Produces post-construction drawings with utility infrastructure designed by engineering staff that includes various streets, public works construction, and utilities projects, facilities and programs;

    _ Assists in the preparation of mapping of construction projects by drafting survey data onto original design project tracings, reflecting all work performed, materials used, and changes made;

    _ Provides blueline printing of archival plans, utility atlas information, benchmark information, construction standards, sewer specification locations, legal right-of-way information and digital and hardcopy aerial photography information;

    _ Uses graphic software that integrates database information to create infrastructure mapping and show land parcel demographics;

    _ Performs other related duties as assigned.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS:

    Knowledge of:

    _ computer based mapping/drafting techniques;

    _ civil engineering, and related mathematical applications;

    _ City codes, ordinances, and current policies related to the design and construction of public works or public utility projects;

    Skill in:

    _ reading and interpreting engineering drawings, maps/plats, construction plans and use of AutoCAD;

    _ using and understanding the capabilities of graphics computer system;

    _ using surveying, drafting, testing and computer terminal equipment.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT: Vision is required to perform essential job functions; classification requires extensive public contact, frequent standing, walking, stooping, bending, climbing into confined spaces or up on scaffolding and other heights and driving. Work is performed in office and field environments. Requires the use of a City vehicle on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Associate of Arts Degree in General Studies or Applied Sciences, and one (1) year architectural civil engineering, land surveying, or drafting experience; or any equivalent combination of experience, education, and training that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform this work. Must possess a valid Arizona Driver's License.

    ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT: An employee in this class is required to live within fifteen (15) miles of the City limits, and within the United States.
