SUMMARY: Under general direction, oversees the overall business operations of the golf shop.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    _ Greets the public, schedules tee times and answers questions regarding the use of golf facilities;

    _ Opens and closes facilities as required;

    _ Sells golf supplies and equipment;

    _ Reconciles daily receipts and makes bank deposits;

    _ Monitors activities of persons using golf course facilities to ensure that golf rules are followed;

    _ Serves as backup in the absence of the Golf Shop Manager/Head Golf Professional;

    _ Prepares promotional materials, receives green fees, assigns golf carts, and performs other duties related to golf tournaments and special events;

    _ Conducts golf lessons on an individual basis;

    _ Answers questions and provides information to persons calling or visiting the golf course;

    _ Receives complaint calls and handles as appropriate;

    _ Verifies purchase invoices and proper budget account charges for accuracy;

    _ Plans, schedules, promotes, and manages golf tournaments;

    _ Applies improved work procedures to ensure safety and efficiency of operations;

    _ Resolves routine problems encountered by subordinate personnel in the performance of work assignments;

    _ Performs other related duties as assigned.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS:

    Knowledge of:

    _ City policies and golf industry standards;

    _ pro shop organization and management practices and principles;

    _ methods, equipment and materials used in golf course and facilities maintenance;

    _ philosophy and objectives of public golf and recreation;

    _ materials, methods and techniques utilized in the construction, maintenance and operation of public golf course facilities.

    Skill in:

    _ explaining golf techniques and fundamentals;

    _ working with golf organizations, citizen groups, vendors and industry representatives;

    _ making decisions requiring technical discretion, sound judgment and familiarity with City policies and golf industry standards.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed primarily in a golf shop facility. Activities may be performed outdoors, where individuals are exposed to a variety of weather conditions. There is need to stand, stoop, walk and lift heavy objects (over 50 pounds) during the course of the workday.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A High School Diploma or G.E.D, and two (2) years' experience in organized golf course management activities or retail merchandising. Must possess a valid Arizona Driver's License.

    ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT: An employee in this class is required to live within fifteen (15) miles of the City limits, and within the United States.
