Tempe, ARIZ – The City of Tempe and Habitat for Humanity Central Arizona (HFHCAZ) are teaming up with the Ramsey Social Justice Foundation, SRP and the East Valley Catholic Coalition to provide three Tempe families each with a new LEED Platinum Certified home in 2013. The “Wall Signing” ceremony for the first home will be held at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 5 at 1130 South Stratton Lane, in the Alegre Neighborhood near South McClintock Drive and East Apache Boulevard.
The partnership with HFHCAZ is part of Tempe’s focused neighborhood revitalization effort to help stabilize our neighborhoods. By partnering with organizations like HFHCAZ, the City of Tempe is able to leverage our resources to maximize the positive impact on the community. Converting vacant lots and abandoned properties into affordable housing options for our residents also helps reduce the opportunities for illegal dumping and graffiti.
The home on South Stratton Lane is being built for Andrade Family and is sponsored by Bob Ramsey and Jenny Norton of the Ramsey Social Justice Foundation. Ramsey and Norton financed HFHCAZ’s first LEED Platinum Certified home (in Glendale) in 2008 and have continued to be strong supporters of Habitat’s green build efforts. Ramsey and Norton have provided the financial resources to ensure that all three of the Tempe homes meet the LEED Platinum certification level.
The home building process will take place each Saturday beginning Jan. 5 and will continue through May. The community is invited to help build Tempe’s first LEED Platinum Certified home. The Tempe Community Action Agency is recruiting volunteers at
www.signupgenius.com/go/60B044FACA82BA13-habitat. No experience is necessary and participants need to be 16 years or older.
The remaining two Habitat homes will be located on East Randall Drive and are being sponsored by SRP and the East Valley Catholic Coalition, respectively. Construction for the Palomares and Acuna family homes will begin later this month.
