19 year old ASU freshman Jack Culolias has not been seen by friends since Friday November 30 at approximately 11:00 p.m. and police are asking anyone who has information to come forward.

Jack, who lives on campus in one of the ASU dormitories, was last seen by friends at Tempe Marketplace’s Cadillac Ranch, when he left the restaurant around 11:00 p.m. His mother called ASU Police on Sunday evening around 5:00 PM, December 2, as a request for a welfare check, since she had not spoken with her son and was concerned.

Jack’s mother and brothers contacted Tempe Police, on Monday evening, December 3, 2012 and advised that they were flying to Arizona from their home in California to search for any sign of Jack near Tempe Marketplace and requested the assistance of Tempe Police. As this was the 1st Tempe Police were made aware of this information, Tempe Police reached out to ASU Police to offer assistance.

By Tuesday, December 4, 2012, ASU Detectives attempts to locate Jack had met with negative results. ASU Police’s investigation determined that Jack’s last known location was the Tempe Market Place. On Tuesday, December 4, 2012 at approximately 1:30 p.m., the missing person investigation begun by ASU Police officially transitioned to Tempe Police. The ASU Detectives originally assigned are continuing to work in partnership with Tempe Detectives to locate Jack Culolias.

Also on Tuesday, December 4, 2012, Jack’s mother and brothers went to the area of the Tempe Market Place where they went looking for further information. The family members located a shoe which they believe belongs to Jack along the Rio Salado River/Town Lake which runs north of the Tempe Marketplace. After finding this shoe Tempe Police was notified and an extensive search of the river basin was initiated.

Tuesday, December 4, 2012 at approximately 2:00 PM Tempe Police and ASU Police began an extensive search of the river basin, which contains rough terrain, just north of the Tempe Marketplace. With the assistance of the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office the area was searched using their Search and Rescue Team to include search K-9’s and a helicopter. During the initial search, nothing in addition to the shoe was found and the scene was secured for the night.

Today, December 5, 2012, Tempe Police investigators have continued their search of the river basin with the assistance of ASU Police and Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office. MCSO Lake Patrol has brought out specialty equipment to assist in the search of the water, while several investigators are conducting a ground search of the area.

Anyone with information is requested to please call Tempe Police at 480-350-8311.
