Tempe Police Arrest Suspect for Homicide in Missing Persons Case

Tempe Police have arrested 33 year old Chad Norris (07/21/1979) and 31 year old Tamara Norris (05/09/1981) in connection with the murder of 45 year old Jason Johnson.

On September 17, 2012, a missing persons report was filed with the Tempe Police Department after it was reported that Johnson had not been seen since September 14, 2012 at approximately 6:00 pm. Johnson was last seen at his place of business, Scottsdale Auto Collision Center near Priest Dr. and Elliot Rd. in Tempe.

Tempe Detectives contacted several employees at the business during the course of follow-up on the missing persons report. During questioning, detectives were provided information about a confrontation that occurred between the victim, Jason Johnson and co-business owner Chad Norris. Chad and Tamara Norris were contacted about the disappearance of Johnson. Neither Chad nor Tamara Norris was willing to cooperate with investigators.

Tempe Detectives conducted surveillance on Norris based on evidence that Norris was involved with Johnson’s disappearance. Later that day, detectives observed suspicious activity from the couple that led them to believe they were attempting to cover up a crime. Chad and Tamara Norris were observed leaving their residence with a box trailer attached to the rear of an SUV. The couple then drove to an area in Phoenix where they abandoned the trailer.

A canine cadaver dog was deployed by detectives, and alerted on the trailer. Detectives then obtained a search warrant. The search revealed what detectives believe to be a homicide scene. Blood was located inside the trailer along with spent shell casings and a wallet that contained Jason Johnson Arizona Driver’s License.

Tempe Detectives believe that Johnson was killed and his body hidden in an unknown location. Based on the evidence obtained in this case Tempe Detectives have arrested Chad Norris for 2nd degree Murder. Tamara Norris was arrested for Felony Hindering; both suspects have been booked into the Tempe City Jail.

The Tempe Police Department is seeking assistance from the public on any information that would lead to Johnson’s whereabouts. Please call Tempe Police Non-Emergency Line at 480-350-8311 or Silent Witness at (480) 948-6377 with any information.
