Tempe Police Quickly Apprehend Suspect After Stabbing During Fight

Tempe Police arrested 20 year old Cody Lydell Hasgood of Piñon, Arizona, for 2nd Degree Murder after he stabbed his cousin during an altercation that occurred last night, June 14, at 1600 W. La Jolla (see attached booking photo).

Tempe 9-1-1 Communications & Dispatch staff received an emergency call at approximately 9:56 p.m. Police officers were on scene within 3 minutes, secured the apartment complex and began searching for the suspect. Hasgood was quickly located by officers and detained for questioning.

Detectives determined that Hasgood and his cousin, 21 year old Lane Yazzie, were intoxicated and had been engaged in an altercation at the apartment complex at 1600 W. La Jolla where Yazzie lived.

During the altercation, Hasgood stabbed Yazzie in the upper body. Tempe firefighters treated the victim and transported him to a local hospital in critical condition, where he subsequently died from the injuries.

Hasgood is facing charges of 2nd Degree Murder.
