Sgt. Steve Carbajal
Media Relations Unit

On Thursday 9-12-13 at approximately 6:30 a.m., a 55 year old male was riding his bicycle to work westbound on 5th St and Siesta Ln, Tempe when he was struck by a vehicle that was making a left turn from eastbound 5th St to northbound Siesta Ln. (Please see PHOTOS below).

The suspect vehicle fled the scene immediately after the collision without providing information or notifying Police of the incident.

There was a witness in the area at the time of the collision; however, the witness could only state that he observed a white pick-up stopped in the roadway near the location of impact. It is unknown whether or not the white pick-up was involved in the collision.

Evidence left at the scene included numerous broken pieces of what appears to be a bug shield (possibly from the suspect vehicle). The victim sustained very serious but non-life threatening injuries in the crash, and was transported to the hospital.

Tempe Police Traffic Detectives are asking for assistance in identifying and locating the suspect vehicle and driver. Photos of the debris located in the roadway and the victim’s bicycle are included in this release.

Anyone with any information about this crash is encouraged to call the Tempe Police Department at 480-350-8311 or Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS.
