TEMPE, Ariz. –
The City of Tempe is excited to announce Arizona Blue Stake as a partner in the fourth annual Arbor Day 5K, just in time for National Safe Digging Month.
April marks the sixth annual National Safe Digging Month, and Arizona Blue Stake is using this month to remind Arizona residents to always call 811 two business days before any digging project. Arizona 811 is a one-call notification center that notifies the appropriate utility companies of intents to dig.
Homeowners and contractors are encouraged to call 811 anytime they begin a digging project. Once a call has been made to Arizona 811, professional locators are sent to the requested digging site to mark the approximate locations of underground lines with flags and paint.
Striking a single line can cause injury, repair costs, fines and inconvenient outages. Every digging project - from installing a mailbox, to building a deck and planting a tree - warrants a call to Arizona 811.
The fourth annual Arbor Day 5K
will be held at 6:15 p.m. at Giuliano Park at Tempe Town Lake on Friday, April 26. All proceeds will go to the Trees for Tempe program to help revitalize Tempe’s urban forest. Activities include an event expo, beginning at 4 p.m., and a free Kids Dash for children 10 and under, beginning at 6 p.m.
