Keeping our Community Safe in Partnership with Neighboring Law Enforcement
& the AZ Governor’s Office of Highway Safety!

The Tempe Police Department, Scottsdale Police Department and Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office will be working in cooperation with the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety participating in a joint DUI Task Force for the St. Patrick’s Day weekend. On St. Patrick’s Day, the command post will be stationed at the Tempe Fire Training Facility, 1340 E. University Drive.

Chief Tom Ryff stated, “Thanks to the generous grant funding awarded by the Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, Tempe and agencies throughout the State are able to make our communities safer through aggressive impaired driving enforcement and continued education”. Patrol Units will be visible in neighborhoods and on City streets. Motor Officers and the DUI Task Force will be deployed to curb driving under the influence. Youth alcohol prevention and enforcement will be a priority.

Impaired driving is one of America’s — and Arizona’s — deadliest crimes.

>St. Patrick's Day is a popular night out to celebrate with friends and family. Unfortunately, due to the large volume of drunk drivers, it has also become dangerous.

>The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that over 700 people were killed nationwide in crashes involving a drunk driver during the St. Patrick’s Day holiday from 2006 to 2010.

>In 2010, more than 10,000 people died in alcohol-impaired driving crashes - one every 51 minutes.

>If you plan on drinking alcohol, designate a driver…before the party begins.

>Don’t risk the consequences of injuring or killing yourself or someone else. Take a cab, bus or light rail.

Get a DD… Not a DUI! Drive Hammered…Get Nailed!
