Criminal Investigation’s Division - Special Victims Unit
The Tempe Police Department’s Special Victims Unit investigates crimes involving children and adults who have been victims of:
- Sexual Assault / Attempted Sexual Assault
- Sexual Abuse
- Sexual Indecency
- Sex Conduct with a Minor
- Indecent Exposure
- Child or Vulnerable Adult Physical Abuse
- Other Sexual-Related Offenses
In addition to investigating these crimes, the Tempe Police SVU Squad has one Detective assigned to monitor those who are required to abide by Sex Offender Registration laws and are living within our community. The Detective also provides community notification when appropriate.
The Tempe Police SVU Squad is made up of a team of Detectives who are experienced and trained in these sensitive, unique and sometimes dynamic types of investigations to include specialized training in interviewing victims and suspects. The Detectives also receive training in the medical, physical and psychological aspects associated with these offenses. The SVU Squad will use all the tools available in the investigative process to pursue justice for the most vulnerable victims and to hold those who violate the law accountable for their actions.
Tempe Police SVU Detectives work in cooperation with multiple local, state and federal agencies to thoroughly investigate and prosecute these types of crimes and simultaneously provide resources for victim assistance to those affected.
