What Steps Do I Need To Take To Get A Job?  
        Step 1:  Get Certified 
   
Lifeguard
:
Take a certified lifeguarding class and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer or equivalent. 
   

A certification course for individuals who are interested in Lifeguarding. The course will include First Aid, CPR, as well as Lifeguard Training. Must be 15 years of age and able to perform swimming skills necessary to complete the course requirements.
Fee: $130

  Swim Lesson Instructor:
 

A certification course for individuals wishing to become Water Safety Instructors. Participants will be certified to teach swim lessons upon successful completion of the course.
Pre-requisites - 16 years of age or older, ability to perform skills appropriate for the class. Fee: $130

        Step 2:  Submit a City of Tempe Application
 

To apply for a lifeguard job with the City of Tempe, download this application, or pick-up an application at the Kiwanis Recreation Center. Applications may be submitted to the Aquatics Department at the Kiwanis Recreation Center before training courses are completed. Please indicate training dates on the application.

        Step 3:  Be Invited to a Skills Test 

Applicant must be invited to a skills test including: an oral interview, lifeguarding skills, CPR, and swimming stroke techniques. You must bring copies of your certifications with you to the skills test.
