The city of Tempe is gathering input from residents and businesses about the Hardy Drive Streetscape project which will enhance the streetscape on Hardy Drive between University Drive and Broadway Road. The project will include bicycle and pedestrian enhancements, public art, ADA improvements and landscaping. The project is intended to promote neighborhood stability, sustainable business and development efforts while continuing Tempe's commitment to alternative modes of transportation. The project is identified in the Comprehensive Transportation Plan as part of the Tempe 2030 General Plan.

An open house will occur June 18 from 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. at Childsplay, 900 S. Mitchell Drive, Tempe. The open house will include meeting Hardy Drive project artist Melissa Martinez and reviewing her deisgn concepts for the project.

Public comment was available until Feb. 28, 2013 about the project and view the final design concept

This project is funded with $1.6 million in federal Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality grant money. The city of Tempe would also contribute (through the transit fund) a five percent match of the total grant money received. The project is currently in final design phase.

The project is currently in the final design phase. Council direction will likely be sought in early spring 2013. Construction would then begin in early 2014 and last six to eight months. Public meetings were held May 23, 2012,  August 15, 2012 and Feb. 20, 2013.
