A Legend Dismantled:
The True Story of the ‘Apache Leap’ Legend—
A ‘Leap’ That Never Took Place
by Stephen Germick
For generations the story of hundreds of Apaches being forced by the U.S. Cavalry to jump off a cliff near Superior east of Apache Junction achieved legend if not mythical status. Stephen will describe the ‘leap,’ the various origins of the legend, and the various legends as they have been told over the years as well as reveal the ‘true’ story of a ‘leap’ that never happened. His documentary and first hand witness evidence ‘dismantles’ the legend and its companion legend—that is, the legend of the ‘Apache tears’—as fiction.
