Tempe will honor the nearly 3,000 victims of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks at its ninth annual Healing Field tribute at Tempe Beach Park. The public is invited to view the display of American flags representing victims of that terrible day. A moving display of patriotism and unity, Healing Field is a free event presented by the City of Tempe and the Exchange Club of Tempe.

| Monday, Sept. 10, 7 p.m. |
| Free community concert of patriotic music presented by local groups. Performers will include Tempe Gililland and Fees Middle Schools. |
| Memorial Ceremony |
| Tuesday, Sept. 11, 5:46 a.m. |
| This memorial ceremony will include a presentation of colors, music, prayer and the reading of the names of the first responders who gave their lives. The ceremony will be held at 5:46 a.m., the same time that the first plane struck the World Trade Center. |
| Candlelight Vigil |
| Tuesday, Sept. 11, 7 p.m. |
| The candlelight vigil will remember the anniversary with music, prayer and guest key-note speaker, Joseph Lutrario, former New York City Police Officer who helped evacuate children from the day care center of the North Tower. Returning to the tower, Officer Lutrario was buried alive in the rubble as the building collapsed around him. Despite injuries and pain, he and his partner continued to participate in emergency evacuation and spent the next several weeks at Ground Zero performing search and rescue duties. |
