Kid Zone Site Instructors

Our instructors travel to Kid Zone before and after school sites leading activities that educate children about MyPlate, physical activity and food safety. They encourage children and their families to make healthy food choices and stay physically active.

Special Events

The Kid Zone Nutrition Program regularly participates in special events for the community, schools  and families. We offer information, incentive items, mascot appearances, and activities promoting healthy food choices.  Examples of events include: Play Day in the Park, Escalante Pre-School Picnic, Kid Zone Summer Nutrition Carnivals, School Turkey Trots and Reindeer Runs, Mutil-cultural Fairs and Family Nights.

Classroom Education

Our program partners with the Tempe Elementary School District to support nutrition education in the classroom.  Kid Zone offers information, resources, and supplies as well as guest speakers to elevate children's knowledge of healthy lifestyles. 

The Kid Zone Nutrition Program offers numerous free resources for teachers and school staff at Title 1 schools in Tempe to help them encourage their students to Eat Smart and Play Hard.

 Special Events and Mascot Appearances:

 Teacher Incentive Program:

 The Kid Zone Nutrition Program can make mascot appearances and/or provide student incentive items at school special events such as Field Days, Carnivals, Parent Nights, Turkey Trots, Reindeer Runs, or assemblies.  Examples of incentive items could include wrist bands, pencils, hackey sacks, etc.  Examples of informational materials available include nutrition related posters and newsletters, fruits and vegetable fact sheets, and recipe cards.  Written materials are in English and Spanish.

As part of school wellness policies and Arizona State Academic standards, classroom teachers already provide a great deal of nutrition education to their students.  By simply recording the number of hours per month spent teaching students to adopt a healthy and active lifestyle, teachers and school staff receive money for classroom materials and supplies.  For every hour recorded, teachers earn $1 resource credit that can be used to purchase resources they need to provide future nutrition education.

 List of Classes:

Classroom teachers can invite Kid Zone Nutrition Specialists into their classrooms as guest speakers.  The specialists typically teach a 30-60 minute interactive lesson (or series of lessons) which can include a short food demonstration that students help prepare and can then taste test.  Students receive incentive items for participating as well as information, newsletters, and recipes to take home to parents.  Specialists are available for Pre-School through eighth grade classes.
