Public Outreach:

Schools:
Tempe has contracted with a local company to provide water conservation educational assemblies in all 25 of our public schools. They provide a half hour interactive shows on water conservation to grades K-6 and provide an activity book for every student. The school show and activity book are changed every year.

Events:
The City of Tempe Water Conservation Program has a booth twice a year at the Mill Avenue Festival of the Arts. The Festival allows us the opportunity to have a Conservation Booth twice a year and talk to many local residents about water conservation and our local programs. Workshops:

The City of Tempe offers free Landscape Workshops twice a year (Spring & Fall). We offer these classes to help residents work through and plan and design for their new landscape.

The workshops are usually in three segments and start on Saturday mornings from 9-1 pm. at the South Police Substation Auditorium, 8201 S. Hardy Drive, Tempe, AZ 85284.

The first workshop covers planning, design, and installation.
The second workshop covers a large variety of plant materials suitable for our desert climate.
The final workshop will cover landscape irrigation, design, maintenance, and installation.

Check the City Events Calendar for upcoming classes.

Rebate Programs:

Tempe offers rebate programs for landscape and toilet upgrades, and plumbing retrofit kits

Grant Programs:

We also offer grants to industrial and commercial water customers and school garden grants.

Water Wasting Complaints:

The City of Tempe has a Water Wasting Ordinance in effect that prohibits water running off a property to a street, easement, alley or right of way. This irrigation run-off damages the streets and undermines the asphalt roadways. The ordinance does not cover waste of water on private property.

To report a water wasting issue, please call the Water Conservation Program (480) 350-2668. If you have to leave a message please include the address of the violation, when it was observed and your contact information. Your information will not be disclosed to anybody other than City Staff but will be used for follow-up information that may be needed or to inform you what has been resolved.
