ANDRE BUILDING
AFTER THE FIRE

On August 4th of l999, the Andre Building (401-403 S. Mill Avenue) sustained damages due to a fire caused during on site construction. Ironically, the Andre Building also sustained a fire 100 years ago in 1899 (pictured above), from which it also recovered.

Today, repairs to the shell of the building are complete, and it is awaiting structural and fire code inspections. The Cactus Sports tenant moved back into the building in late March, and Rula Bula is expected to open in the summer of 2000. The tenant’s interior Irish pub theme was actually built in Ireland, dismantled, and then shipped to Tempe as part of the concept for managing company Guinness. Rula Bula (which means "uproar" or "free for all" in Gaelic) will come complete with staff from Ireland.

The second floor of the Andre Building houses a management office for the restaurant space, in addition to a single tenant scheduled to lease the space once interior tenant improvements have been made.
