Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) is any
substance containing ingredients that have a reasonably anticipated outcome of
negatively affecting your safety, health or the environment. Typically, HHW is
identified with the signal words poison, danger, warning and caution. HHW can
include such products as wood stains, bleach, antifreeze, insecticides, paint,
herbicides, drain cleaners and much more.
Other words on product labels give
indications that the material is hazardous. These include:

Toxic: can cause injury or death if swallowed, absorbed or inhaled

Reactive:
A chemical that when combined with other substances can create a chemical
reaction that results in a fire/explosion or production of hazardous
gas/vapors.

Flammable:
easily catches fire and tends to burn rapidly

Corrosive:
a chemical or its vapors that can cause a material or living tissue to be
destroyed

Explosive:
violently bursting when exposed to pressure or heat

Irritant:
causes soreness or swelling of the skin, eyes, mucous membranes or
respiratory system
