IS MY HOUSE IN A FLOOD ZONE?

ANSWER: THESE CALLS CAN BE ANSWERED BY OUR PRIVATE DEVELOPMENT ENGINEERING PERSONNEL OR ME BECAUSE WE ARE THE ONLY ONES THAT HAVE THE NECESSARY MAPS TO REFER TO.

WHAT CAN I DO TO GET MY HOUSE TAKEN OUT OF A FLOOD ZONE?

ANSWER: THERE IS A LENGTHY FORM THE OWNER CAN FILL OUT AND SUBMIT TO THE FEDERAL EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY (FEMA). THE PHONE NUMBER FOR REQUESTING SUCH A FORM AND INSTRUCTIONS IS 1-800-358-9616. IF ONLY THE STRUCTURE IS BEING REMOVED FROM A FLOOD ZONE THE APPLICANT SHOULD PROCESS A "LETTER OF MAP AMENDMENT" APPLICATION. IF AN ENTIRE PROPERTY OR AREA IS BEING REMOVED FROM A FLOOD ZONE THE APPLICANT SHOULD PROCESS A "LETTER OF MAP REVISION" APPLICATION. BOTH REQUIRE A REVIEW AND ACCEPTANCE BY THE CITY OF TEMPE PRIOR TO SUBMITTING TO FEMA. FEMA CHARGES A FEE FOR THE REVIEW. THE CITY MAY HAVE ELEVATION INFORMATION THE APPLICANT CAN USE TO COMPLETE THE FORMS BUT IF THIS INFORMATION IS NOT AVAILABLE THE APPLICANT WILL NEED TO ENLIST THE SERVICES OF A REGISTERED LAND SURVEYOR FOR OBTAINING THE NECESSARY ELEVATION INFORMATION. THE SAME CITY PERSONNEL LISTED IN (1) ABOVE ARE AVAILABLE TO ASSIST THE APPLICANT THROUGH THE PROCESS.
