Councilmember Mark Mitchell

Mark Mitchell
, a third-generation Arizonan, was re-elected to his second four-year term on
the City Council in March 2004. Mr.
Mitchell
served
as Vice Mayor July 2004 to June 2006. Mark is
the chair of the Tourism and Recreation Committee and serves on the
Finance, Economy & Veterans Committee, and the Central City Development
Committee of the Whole.
Mr. Mitchell is a native of
Tempe
where he is a member of the Kiwanis Club
of Tempe Board of Directors, Tempe Leadership Class XV and
Tempe
Sister Cities., Tempe Impact Education Foundation and the Tempe YMCA.
Mark is the past chair of the University Community Caucus for the National
League of Cities. Mark is currently chair of the City Futures
Community and Regional Development Panel and a board member for the
University Communities Council for the National League of Cities.
Mitchell attended McClintock
High School and Arizona State University.
He is married to Debra Mitchell and has two daughters, Allyson and Sophia.
Mr. Mitchell is continuing his family’s legacy in
Arizona
politics. His father, Harry Mitchell, was mayor of
Tempe
from 1978 to 1994 and served on the City Council for more than 24 years. Harry
Mitchell currently is a congressman representing Congressional District 5. Mark’s uncle,
Bob Mitchell, served as mayor of Casa Grande from 1993 to 2001 and as councilman
from 2001 to February 2004. Mark’s
great-grandfather, W.W. Mitchell, also was an
Arizona
state legislator.
