About Councilmember Ellis
Shana Ellis was elected to the Tempe City Council in March 2006 and was re-elected in March 2010 for another four year term. She was raised in Tempe and graduated from Tempe High School and Arizona State University, where she received a Bachelor's Degree in Business/Computer Information Systems and a Master's in Public Administration.
Ellis is currently Chair of the Metro Rail Board and the Past Chair of the Valley Metro/RPTA Board of Directors. She serves as Tempe's representative to the Valley Metro/RPTA Board and on the National League of Cities (NLC) Transportation Infrastructure and Services Policy and Advocacy Committees. Ellis is also an Arizona Community Action Agency Board Member www.azcaa.org, serves on the St. Luke's Medical Center Board and on the Valley of the Sun United Way Ending Homeless Advisory Board.
Ellis' leadership experience has included serving as chair of the Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG) Continuum of Care Regional Committee on Homelessness (2009-2011), on the Board of Directors of Tempe Leadership (President in 2004) www.tempeleadership.org, the Tempe Human Relations Commission (Chair in 2000), Area Agency on Aging Advisory Council (Chair in 2001-2002) www.aaaphx.org/Advisory and the Kiwanis Club of Tempe (President in 2002). She served as a member of the National League of Cities Community and Economic Development Policy/Advocacy Committee. Ellis also has volunteered for numerous organizations including Tempe Boys & Girls Club www.clubzona.com, Tempe Rio Salado Little League, Tempe St. Luke's Hospital, Tempe Cares, Tempe Diablos, Tempe Sister Cities, Childsplay, Broadmor Elementary School, Waggoner Elementary School, Marcos de Niza High School and Kyrene Middle School.
Shana is the 2012 recipient of the MAG Desert Peaks Award for Regional Excellence in Transportation. In 2010, Shana was awarded Councilmember of the Year from the regional branch of NAHRO and has been the recipient of the Brian Mickelsen Housing Hero Award in the category of elected official.
She retired from Tempe Community Council in 2006, after a 20-year tenure, where she worked with hundreds of non-profit organizations and community groups.Community Service
