Watch a video about the Petersen House
One of the city’s most beautiful historic homes, the Niels Petersen House Museum stands as a reminder of Tempe’s past and the residents who helped pave the way for future generations.
The Petersen House, located at 1414 W. Southern Ave in Tempe, is open for school tours and group tours by appointment. The home is on the National Register of Historic Places and has received the Governor’s Award for Historic Preservation. Click here for more information on the architecture of the home.
If you’re interested in exploring this historic property, the Tempe History Museum offers tours of the Petersen House for groups of 10 or more and are scheduled by appointment with two weeks advanced notice. A $5 per person donation is requested for tours.
The Petersen House closes each season from the last week of May to the end of September. Contact the Tempe History Museum at 480-350-5100 or firstname.lastname@example.org to request a tour date. Please note that tours are subject to staff and docent availability.
A ramp allows accessibility to the first floor of the home; due to the historic nature of the home the second floor is not wheelchair accessible. Click on the video link at the top of the page to view images of the entire house and learn more about its history.
