Tom Bertling (smootmahooty) is a fulltime working musician. He has been playing around Phoenix and Northern Arizona for the last 30 years. Bertling is number 8 of 12 children and was raised in Delphos, Ohio. His earliest musical influences were listening to his grandmother play guitar and sing songs from the 1920s and 1930s. With an appreciation for all kinds of musical styles, Bertlings' original music cannot be categorized. He writes a little bit of everything and calls it "Mutt Music.
" As a result, he has five CDs of original music mixed and mastered by Grammy Award-winning producer Billy Williams. Bertling says that Walk-in Wednesdays Open Mic Night has provided him a great place to showcase his original music, but, more importantly, it has provided a sense of community that singer/songwriters do not normally experience.
Priscilla Bertling, Tom's wife, will be joining him on stage, singing harmony vocals. Priscilla Bertling is a native Phoenician and has been singing and performing her whole life. Open mic nights, such as Walk-in Wednesdays have a special meaning for the pair, who met at an open mic 25 years ago, and they have been singing together ever since. She sang and danced in the chorus/ensemble cast in South Pacific from Feb. 24 through March 30, 2013, at Hale Theater in Gilbert. Hands of My Grandma When it Comes to Push & Shove Gotta Let Go
Cait Brennan grew up on the road, traveling cross-country with her great-grandmother, absorbing diverse musical influences like Merle Haggard, Sam Cooke, Big Star, Elton John and U2. Crowned a "smart, melodic singer songwriter" by the Phoenix New Times,Brennan's literate, lyrical tales of heartbreak desperadoes and star-crossed outsiders are equal parts joyful guitar hooks and 70s-style piano rock (with a lot of heart, soul and a bit of the Banana Splits thrown in for good measure). Brennan is a writer for Echo Magazineand a contributing editor of Popshifter.com. She co-wrote the romantic comedy "Love or Whatever," which hit theatres in 2012.
