Come Out & Play on Saturday, Feb. 24
Free, all-ages community event celebrates activities and recreation for the entire family
In keeping with its designation as a Playful City USA community for the ninth consecutive year, Tempe will host a free day of play for kids of all ages to celebrate play and reap the benefits of being active. PlayDay is scheduled to occur from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 24 at Kiwanis Park, at Mill Ave. & All-America Way.
Participants of PlayDay will have the opportunity to join-in on a variety of structured and unstructured games and events, including: youth sports activities, kayaking, dance & movement activities, inflatables and more!
Visitors will once again enjoy the Diablo Dash at PlayDay. Sponsored by the Tempe Diablos, the Diablo Dash is a free, family-friendly obstacle course that will have you running, crawling, climbing, sliding and laughing all the way to the finish line!
Kid Zone Experience
2018 will mark the return of the Kid Zone Experience! You’ll have the opportunity to try your hand at Angry Birds STEM Launch, Rubik Cubes, 3D STEM Pens, Make-Your-Own Salsa, life-size board games and more – all activities representative of the Kid Zone Enrichment program.
Just for Kids Fishing Festival
Again this year, the city is proud to join forces with Anglers United and Arizona Game and Fish for the 27th annual Just for Kids Fishing Expo! Anglers of all ages are invited to the fire circle located on the west side of Kiwanis Lake between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. to try their hand at fishing. Everything you need (poles, bait and a little guidance) will be provided at no cost during the event!
Enjoy the city’s popular Touch-a-Truck event and explore all the city trucks on display. These are the types of vehicles that keep a city like Tempe moving: fire trucks, street sweepers, police cars, trash and recycling trucks, backhoes, mowers and more.
KaBOOM!, a national non-profit organization dedicated to promoting play in children’s lives, chose Tempe as a Playful City USA community this past summer. In the tenth year of the program, KaBOOM! named 257 cities and towns across the country - 16 of which are in Arizona - as Playful City USA honorees. Tempe was one of 22 communities given this designation for the ninth consecutive year because of the way it uses play and play spaces to positively impact childhood wellness, public safety and quality of life.
