Free, all-ages community event celebrates activities and recreation for the entire family
In keeping with its designation as a Playful City USA community for the seventh consecutive year, Tempe will host a free day of play for kids of all ages to celebrate play and reap the benefits of being active. PlayDay is scheduled to occur from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 27 at Kiwanis Park, at Mill Ave. & All-America Way (Between Baseline Rd. and Guadalupe Rd.).
Participants of PlayDay will have the opportunity to join-in on a variety of structured and unstructured games and events, including: youth sports activities, kayaking dance & movement activities, inflatables and more!
Visitors will once again enjoy the Diablo Dash at PlayDay. Sponsored by the Tempe Diablos, the Diablo Dash is a free, family-friendly obstacle course that will have you running, crawling, climbing, sliding and laughing all the way to the finish line!
Kid Zone Experience
2016 will mark the return of the Kid Zone Experience! You’ll have the opportunity to get hands-on and try your hand at speed stacking, a salsa making challenge, chess tournament and more – all activities representative of the Kid Zone Enrichment program.
Just for Kids Fishing Festival
New for PlayDay 2016, the City of Tempe has joined forces with Anglers United and Arizona Game and Fish for the 25th annual Just for Kids Fishing Expo! Anglers of all ages are invited to the fire circle located on the west side of Kiwanis Lake between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. to try their hand at fishing. Everything you need (poles, bait and a little guidance) will be provided at no cost during the event!
KaBOOM!, a national non-profit organization dedicated to promoting play in children’s lives, chose Tempe as a Playful City USA community this past summer. In the eighth year of the program, KaBOOM! named 241 cities and towns across the country - 14 of which are in Arizona - as Playful City USA honorees. Tempe was one of 22 communities given this designation for the seventh consecutive year because of the way it uses play and play spaces to positively impact childhood wellness, public safety and quality of life.
