Town Lake is important to Tempe and the entire region. It’s Arizona’s second most popular public attraction, drawing 2.7 million visitors and generating about $825 million in economic impact during the last 12 years. It has brought great special events such as Ironman Arizona, the Salsa Challenge, the Town Lake Fantasy of Lights Boat Parade and more. As importantly, gives people options for running, picnicking and just relaxing.
From an economic development standpoint, the City of Tempe has added many new developments around the lake, including Hayden Ferry Lakeside and Grigio. These offer people places to live and start a business. More than 5,000 people work in businesses around Tempe Town Lake in companies like Smith Barney and KPMG. These would likely not have opened in Tempe without Town Lake.
