Residential Improvement Fee REBATE Program


The Program
     The program provides a 100 percent rebate for all building safety fees on improvements completed on
     existing single family residential properties that are more than 20 years old in the City of Tempe. 

    Projects must be completed and receive a final building inspection approval within one-year from 
    the issuance of a building permit to qualify. 

    This includes all residential additions, alterations and home improvements normally reviewed and 
    permitted by the Building Safety Division. 

Eligible Projects Include

    Room additions  
    Building alterations 
    Patio covers 
    In-ground pools 
    Plumbing, electrical & mechanical alterations 
    Photo Voltaic Solar Systems 
        *Bedroom additions on rental properties DO NOT quality 

Potential Savings

    200 sq. ft. building addition: $400 
    Backyard Patio cover: $150 
    New Custom Pool: $250 
    Bathroom Remodel: $300 
    Typical Patio Enclosure: $500 
    Enclosed Entry: $100 
    Typical Kitchen Remodel: $375 
        Excludes planning & engineering fees

Fees Not Eligible for Rebate
    Investigation fees 
    Pool demo
    Permits issued for construction performed without permits 
    Renewal fees 
    Fees for Engineering, Fire, or Water & Sewer 

How to Apply for a Rebate 
    Make sure your permit was issued AFTER June 30, 2007 
    Make sure your residence is over 20-years old 
    Make sure your project receives a FINAL inspection approval within one-year of permit issuance 
    Fill out a rebate application 
    Submit your rebate application by fax, mail or in person 
    Allow 4 to 6 weeks for processing
