Tempe is committed to removing graffiti as soon as possible and encourages private property owners to do the same. Here are the general graffiti guidelines for Tempe properties and resources to help with removal. If you are witnessing graffiti being painted, please call the Tempe Police non-emergency number at 480-350-8311.

Graffiti on private property

Residents and businesses are required by city code to remove or paint over graffiti within ten days. Here are two resources available:

Graffiti Wipeout Superbags

These kits are a great choice for residents with small amounts of graffiti found on light poles, road signs or windows. The kit includes graffiti safewipes, afterwipes, gloves, safety glasses and a safety vest. Graffiti Wipeout Superbags are free and can be picked up at the Apache or Hardy police substations. Call 480-359-8780 to check for kit availability. For kit refills, contact Megan Hanks at

Tempe Graffiti Referral Program

This is a good resource for businesses or property owners that experience a large amount of graffiti or deal with it on a consistent basis. The city has negotiated discounted flat rates to help curb the costs of cleanup. Click here to learn more about the Tempe Graffiti Referral Program.

Graffiti on public property

Graffiti on public property can be reported to the city’s graffiti hotline, Tempe 311, at 480-350-8384 or online at Tempe311 and city staff will paint over it within 24-48 hours.
