Effective January 1, 2017, on an annual basis, lobbyists must register and report on expenditures. Please note that lobbyist registration and expenditure reporting is the responsibility of the lobbyist, not City of Tempe public officials or employees. Who needs to register?
All lobbyists are required to register. A lobbyist is any person who is compensated to communicate with any public official (Tempe City Council, a Board or Commission member, or a Hearing Officer) to influence official action.
When do I register?
Lobbyists shall register with the City Clerk’s Office prior to lobbying or within ten (10) calendar days after first lobbying. Lobbyist registrations must be renewed annually, between January 1 and January 31.
When do I file expenditure reports?
Expenditure Reports are due annually between January 1 and January 31 from each registered lobbyist organization or individual, for the preceding calendar year. The first expenditure report is due January 31, 2018.
How do I file forms and reports?
The required forms and reports shall be completed electronically and filed via email to email@example.com.
