Description
The Tempe Police Department's Crime Analysis Unit is currently seeking strategic and administrative interns.  This Internship is an opportunity to assist the Crime Analysis Unit and the Tempe Police Department in the analysis of criminal activity by:

  • Conducting quantitative and qualitative analyses of crime reports

  • Assisting police officers and detectives with research on criminal activity in Tempe

  • Presenting analysis and statistics in various internal and external forums; participate and provide information to police committees

  • Use computer databases, electronic spreadsheets, desktop publishing, word processing, and statistical applications to manipulate, analyze, and present data

  • Conducting a research study on a topic related to crime in Tempe

 

Interns will gain proficiency in various computer applications including:

·         Excel ©

·         Word ©

·         Outlook ©

·         MapInfo ©

·         SPSS ©

·         Other software programs specific to the Tempe Police Department

Qualifications
Applicants for this internship should have well developed analytical skills. Additionally, it is preferred that applicants have a background in research and have taken undergraduate courses in research methods and statistics.

Compensation
This is an unpaid internship. However, this is an excellent opportunity to:

Schedule
We require a commitment of at least  9 hours a week, but the specific days and times are negotiable. 

Location
Interns will be working at the North Tempe Police Station located at 120 E. 5th Street (walking distance from the Tempe Arizona State University campus).
