Part I Crime Information

The following information reflects only crimes that are categorized as Part I Crimes by the FBI’s Uniform Crime Report. By the FBI’s definition, Part I Crimes include homicide, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny, motor vehicle theft, and arson. The numbers reported here reflect the official Part I Crime numbers reported to the FBI and exclude cases that have been unfounded.  

The following table shows the frequency and types of Part I Crime for 1999-2007 in Tempe.  Overall there was a 9.8% decrease in Part I Crimes from 2006 to 2007. Comparisons of specific Part I Crimes across 2006 and 2007 indicated there was a 50.0% increase in homicide, an 11.3% decrease in rape, a 22.5% decrease in robbery, a 13.3% decrease in aggravated assault, a 4.0% increase in burglary, a 5.0% decrease in larceny, a 33.9% decrease in motor vehicle theft, and a 6.8% decrease in arson.
