So you are considering being part of Team Tempe

A marathon, even a half, can seem like a daunting challenge. While there is certainly a baseline of physical fitness required, even total couch potatoes can train for a successful event. And when you are a part of Team Tempe, training is free.

Not everyone runs these races. Many people walk the entire course, whether choosing the 13.1 mile half or the 26.2 mile full marathon. For some, the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon is the first race event they’ve ever signed up to complete! The bands, the crowds and the big post-race concert make the event too tempting to pass up!

The Mayor’s Run is set up so that whether you are an accomplished runner or a beginning walker, you can have a great time and finish

The training program will provide you with methods and schedules on how to train properly, organize group training runs/walks (for all levels of ability), provide you with special team training & race day shirts, invite you to special pre-race training workshops, pre-race dinner, a post-race Victory party and other incentives and perks.

While training to run or walk the marathon or half-marathon race, you will have the opportunity to raise money to benefit many Tempe charities.   These funds will provide resources to help high school programs, the YMCA, those with physical disabilities, the hungry and the homeless. Since the first P.F. Chang’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Arizona in 2004, the150,000 race participants have raised over $22.5 million for charity.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Pick your charity. Each has a minimum donation to raise, special training times and incentives
  2. Fill out this form and give it to the charity’s coach: http://www.tempe.gov/tcc/TEAMTempe/AZ09_charity_entry.pdf
  3. Start training!

We appreciate your efforts to help our community.
