For
the last five years, Tempe Mayor Hugh Hallman has run the P.F. Chang's Rock
n Roll Arizona Half Marathon to raise money for Tempe's charities. He and
more than 300 runners who
have joined him have raised nearly $1 million for a variety of local charities and
school programs.
The race happens in January. More than 35,000 people participate,
making it one of Tempe's top destination events. To prepare for the race,
Hallman and the Mayor's Runners, gather for practice sessions led by local
running coaches. The entire program is paid for through sponsorships and all
profits go straight to the local charities.
